A Japanese art form in which breaks and repairs are treated as part of the objects history. Broken ceramics are carefully mended by artisan’s with a lacquer resin mixed with powdered gold, silver or platinum. The repairs are visible yet somehow beautiful.

Kintsugi means “golden joinery” in Japanese

The philosophy behind the technique is to recognise the history of the object and to visibly incorporate the repair into the new piece instead of disguising it.

Our lives do not go backward nor tarries with yesterday - for every wrinkled line is a road map of this journey - and every scar a solemn decoration. It is perception that writes timeless poetry. Creating Art despite the breaking - for that is when true beauty emerges.

The Japanese believe that when something has suffered damage and has a history, it becomes more beautiful.

Mending broken object with gold teaches us if we choose to embrace our struggles and repair ourselves with love, we become more beautiful for having been broken

Broken objects are not something to hide but to display with PRIDE.

Literally golden ‘kin’ and repair ‘tsugi’.

This is the essence of resilience; each of us should look for a way to cope with traumatic events in a positive way, learn from negative experiences, take the best from them and convince ourselves that exactly these experiences make each person unique and precious.
